Discovering London

Hi Everybody ---------

This is our third day in London and we've been enjoying every minute. The city is amazing. We have started to compare it to Paris, but they are completely different and are equally wonderful and interesting in their own way. London is obviously much bigger and more spread out. We do notice that the city is laid out differently, but that is attributed to the reconstruction after their fires and the German blitz/bombing. The streets are much wider which allows them to have bigger cars and of course the many double decker buses which seem to be everywhere.

As for last night we made it to the theatre for an amazing producton of The Phantom of the Opera. The tickets Susie ordered gave us front row seats, nothing but the orchestra and the stage in front of us. The acting, singing, and set were spectacular.

We found a restaurant in the theatre disctrict after the show. Keeping to my plan to try new things on the menus, I had the meat and kidney pie. It was actually very good. Susie played it safe with Dover sole. She had no interest in sharing or trying the kidney.

Today we set off and experienced the Tube (undergound subway). It was a whole lot easier figuring out how to catch the cars compared to the Metro in Paris. I guess it has something to do with the transalation. We first went to the silver vaults where they have it set up with stalls/booths like the jewelry mart, except each one has it's own vaulted type of door. Anyway, we found an antique ink well set that will look perfect on Susie's desk.

We did some more walking and strolling around South Kensington and Chelsea. Very uptown with countless boutique shops and exquisite homes - Susie has to stop me from taking pictures of the architecture. I do let her be in some of them. Anyway, there a number of parks spread out in the neighborhoods for the people and their dogs, much different than Paris where we had to watch our step. It seems that the Parisians haven't adjusted to cleaning up after their pups while the rest of the streets and sidewalks had very little litter.

Got to sign off now as our clock says it is 23:24 o'clock. Hope everyone remembers to move their clocks up tonight. We of course did ours last weekend after finally figuring out what was going on.

Love to all of you.
Tom and Susie
