Day 13 - Last day in London
Hi -
We are starting to wind down our trip and it's frustrating to not know when we'll be back here in Europe. Everyone we've meet here in London and in France have been really nice to us and have encouraged us to return. Besides it helping their commerce and economy, they do like to share their countries with the foreigners on 'holiday'.
Today was another special one here in London where we took our breakfast in bed (going to miss this one a lot !!!) and got on the underground to Wimbledon. Being a tennis nut, I was in 'pig heaven'. We took the tour that included the Wimbledon museum, the press room, Court #1, and, of course, Centre Court. We decided to do this excursion last minute and it was time well spent.
We just got back from dinner where we went to a 'traditional' English restaurant, Simpsons on the Strand (nothing to do with Homer Simpson). This place has been around for more than 150 years and seems to have their act together with roast beef and yorkshire pudding. Needless to say, it was terrific. So was the dessert of treacle sponge cake with custard sauce. We tried to get their recipe for the sponge cake, but I guess it is a secret. And who said the English food is inferior?
We are starting to do our packing up tonight so we can get to the train station tomorrow for the Eurostar back to Paris where we have our last night of this trip.
It's been nice using English once again. Hope we can still remember enough French and make it through one more day in Paris.
If I can get Susie out of her depression about leaving Europe, she will try to send off one more blog before we catch our plane on Tuesday.
Wishing all of you good cheer on this Palm Sunday.
Love, Tom and Susie
