We're Here!!!
Bonjour, We are here and jet-lagged but it is amazing. Scott--you and Dana would have loved this--but I don't want you to feel bad. You'll come soon. The plane ride was good. We tried to sleep but it wasn't too easy. I still don't know how to use those little horseshoe pillows. We arrived and had a really nice taxi driver. She was very encouraging about our French. Tom is doing "tres bien"--taking to it like a fish (poisson) to water (l'eau). When we arrived the room wasn't ready yet so we walked around the Ile St. Louis. Such small, narrow streets--very charming. Then we went to Notre Dame (only about a block away). Things are pretty quiet around here in the morning, but then it gets hopping. Lots of tour groups (most of them are speaking French). Notre Dame is being renovated, however, we did walk inside. Lynnie, tell Alice that we are going to light a candle for her there. After that we had chocolat and tatine (sp?)-bread and butter at an outdoor cafe called Esmeralda. We checked into hotel. The room is small and smells like cigarettes. The bathroom is lovely--large and clean, looks fairly new. We are now walking around St. Germain de Pres and the Latin Quarter-just to get our bearings and wait for night so we can sleep. We had crepes for lunch--Tom had crepes with Camembert and I had crepes Provencale. We still can't believe we are here but we're starting to get the hang of it a little. The weather is beautiful. Sunny and cold (a light shower early) but warm in the sun. I don't need my hat or gloves. Tomorrow we will explore more. Probably the Louvre, maybe the Eiffel Tower--just don't know yet. Much love to all. Now that we know where this cyber-cube is we will try to come every day.
