Day Two from Tom

Bonjour -

We did a lot more walking today and now have a better feel for the city. Great way to see buildings, shops, people, etc. A lot of things stand out that are different from other places we've been. We see a lot of cafes, bistros, and bars - and a lot of smoking. Marlboro seems to be the cig of choice here. Outside of one McDonalds near the Paris University, there is very little fast food or restaurant chains. Everything is unique. No Starbucks or any coffee 'houses' to go. You sit down and enjoy it rather than be on the run. Haven't see any Jamba Juice or anything like it. They do have a number of small stands that sell crepes and hot sandwiches (pannini).

Another thing about Paris is the cars. Almost all of them are French made --Renault, Citroen, and Peugot. A few Merceds Benz, but everything is small. We've seen a few 'Smarts' - it looks like something that was in between a chain reaction accident. You may have seen one Ashton Kutcher was driving in 'Honeymoon in Europe'. Also, not one SUV.

The people we've met have been terrific. No issues of attitude, snobbery, or anything anti-American. Susie and I felt we would blend in with our dark clothes and no white socks, but they seem to spot us a mile away and know we are American.

Looking forward to another great dining experience tonight. Last night was over three hours, but didn't seem like it. We both had canard that had an orange sauce, not too different from Susie's chicken a la orange' sauce. After the entree and plat, Susie had fromage and I had a custard with grand marnier sauce. May try something different other than poulet for our main course. Cafe and expresso was served after dessert, never with (it's a rule here).

Not sure what our plans are tomorrow, but I'm sure it will be another great adventure.

Love all you guys. Je t'aime.
