Day Five and Six.............from Tom
Hi everyone, Bonjour:
Having one adventure after another. This damn keyboard is one of them........ the 'a', 'm', 'q', and 'w' are in the wrong places-------- it must be some kind of conspiracy.
The travel yesterday was interesting - taxi; train; and automobile. The driving is OK (d' accord), mais the roundabouts are crazy: Having a children's parade blocking the main street in town and the wrong directions to the hotel made it a little more challenging.
Been loving the architecture here and in Paris. Never seen anything like it. It goes from periods of Medieval, Greek, Roman to art deco and modern. The best thing has been the food. It's been beyond our expectations. Lqst night's was nearly the best. I settled for a four course dinner that included: Filets de rougets (fish with couscous), plat was trout with clams, then La ronde des Fromage (light cheese _ almost like yogurt), and finished it with Tarte caramelisee a l'ananas (pineapple) et son sorbet mangue (mango).
Like Susie said, our hotel room is unique. It's down stairs almost like being in a converted wine cellar and seems brand new. The roon is tiled; except that the bed is on a rock slab. The ceiling is a solid sheet of blue plastic. The lighting is hard to describe. It must have over two dozen different small lights that provide directional ambient lighting. One problem this morning was discovering that there was no hot l'eau (water). Must get that fixed........ I've had enough cold showers while backpacking.
Tomorrow's adventure looks like it will be a drive into the Provence countryside and have a picnic as most of the stores and cafes are closed on Monday.
Will write more when we can.
Bonjour, au revoir
