Day 2
Bonjour Again,
We have decided that blogging is the only way to go!! Scott, love the pictures. I wish we could post some of our own. Paris is amazing!!!!!! Tom and I keep pinching ourselves. We had a wonderful dinner last night at a little restaurant in our neighborhood. We were both soooo tired. But it was just great--we may go back tonight because we walked our legs off today. We slept late, had our petit dejeuner in the room--croissants, baguette, butter, confiture (jam), hot strong coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Then a bath (only a hand held shower)--but it felt great. Then we activated our three day Metro pass and we were off to the Louvre. We saw the highlights--Delacroix's Napoleon, portraits of Josephine and the important figures of the revolution. Then on to the Italian masters--Da Vinci, Carravagio, Raphael etc. Of course we saw La Jaconde (Mona Lisa), Nike of Samothrace, Venus de Milo. The were others we just loved. They let you take pictures so we got most of the highlights--even some videos.
Then we walked the Tuillerie Gardens, saw the Place de Concorde and walked down the very chic Rue Royale and Faubourg St. Honore--Chanel, Hermes, Limoges, Maxim's etc. As we were walking back to the Place de Concorde we passed a ton of policemen. I said to Tom, "I wonder what's going on, why are these guys just standing around this house with the statue of Benjamin Franklin in front? It doesn't look like a hotel. Guess what--American Embassy! The police were swarming all over the streets around it and at every entrance. Not Americans/marines or anything but gendarmes. They must think that it is a PRIME target . . . and, of course it is.
Then we had to stop for Pannini. Then as we were crossing the bridge (Pont de la Concorde) it started to hail (the weather has been beautiful, really). We stopped in the middle of the bridge and took a video of the 360 degree view--Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde, the Louvre, Tuilleries. Just unbelievable. We have now walked down to the St. Germain de Pres where we have found the Cyber Cube. We have computer #6--same as yesterday. We love doing this and are having a wonderful time. I love Paris more this time than last. I'm going to let Tom do some writing now...Love you all--keep blogging!
